From swamp to the world capital of fun, The success story of Orlando and its region is relatively recent and began when a man named Walt Disney secretly bought a giant area of Florida where he could expand his empire and give life to their charismatic characters. A swampy and without much pretense region, the Walt Disney World came, a complex of parks and hotels which was the kickoff for Orlando to become the phenomenon it is today.
The first park opened in the region was the Magic Kingdom in 1971, which is actually located in Lake Buena Vista. Then, other companies have settled in place and now Orlando is home to three major entertainment groups, Walt Disney World, Sea World and Universal Orlando. Orlando received over 45 million visitors per year in recent years, making it one of the most visited cities in the world.
Currently, Disney has four theme parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom), two water (Thyphoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach), an indoor arcade (Disney Quest) and a large entertainment area (Downtown Disney) . Disney parks are more geared for children and there you can feel on a true story of fairy tales. Universal has two theme parks (Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure), a water (Wet 'n Wild) and a great entertainment complex for adults (Universal CityWalk).
